The best cycling training apps in 2026

The best cycling training app for most riders is LeCoach: it writes every workout for you, adapts when it has to, and is a coach you can actually talk to. But "cycling app" covers very different things, so the right choice depends on the job you want it to do. Below are the best cycling training apps by job, with what each one is good at and how we'd choose.

Most riders end up using two of these, one to decide what to ride and one to ride it on, because they do different jobs.

We make LeCoach, so we're not neutral. Every claim below was checked on the other app's own site in November 2026.

Prices are paid plans, checked in November 2026, in the currency each site shows. They can change, so check before you buy.

AI coaches that build and adapt your training plan

These apps decide what you should ride, and change the plan as you go. This is where the real differences are. Some fill your plan from a library of workouts and scale them to your FTP. Others write the workouts for you. Some change your plan by themselves, others ask you first, and only a few let you ask why. Our overview of the best AI cycling coach goes much deeper on these.

    LeCoach

Every workout is written for you, from your goal, your week and your numbers. You can ask it anything, any time, and it can change your plan from the conversation. It makes small, safe changes by itself every night, suggests where it should and asks where it matters. You also get a Plan Health Score, deep analytics, strength training on the same calendar, and weight and habit tracking.

    JOIN

A tidy phone app that handles a changing week well. An algorithm picks from a library of 400+ workouts and adjusts by itself, so it can guess wrong about why you missed a session. There's no chat to explain it.

    TrainerRoad

A long-standing choice for structured, power-based training on a trainer, with a large workout library and an engine that picks the next workout by level. There's no chat coach, and it doesn't use your HRV or sleep. You add strength yourself.

    Athletica

Generates plans from your data and suits triathletes and other multi-sport athletes. It recalculates in the background after every session, and its chat coach gives advice but doesn't change the plan.

    Cycling Coach AI

A chat coach that can move or rebuild sessions when you ask. Strength training is limited to its higher tiers, and it's the most expensive of this group at the top end.

Why LeCoach is the best cycling training app for most riders

A training app should do what a good coach does, and that's what we built. LeCoach writes every workout for you instead of picking it from a shelf or a template, so your plan is yours. You can talk to it like you'd talk to a coach, about today's session, fuelling, a race or a sore knee, as much as you like, and the answers come from your own rides and recovery.

It looks after your plan the way a coach would. It changes what it safely can by itself every night, with an Undo button. It suggests where it should, such as an easier session after a poor night. And it asks where it matters: if you miss sessions or your recovery stays low, it asks why before it touches your plan, because the answer could be a busy month or a cold coming on. Other apps guess.

You also get to understand your training. The Plan Health Score tells you whether your plan is working, your Engine shows your strengths and what to work on, and every ride gets a score against the plan. Behind the AI sits calculated training logic with firm guardrails, so the numbers stay right. And it fits what you already use: your workouts go to your Garmin directly, and to Zwift, MyWhoosh, Rouvy and Wahoo through Intervals.icu, for less than any other coaching app on this page.

    Indoor platforms

These are where you ride indoors. Each one has workouts and plans of its own, and they differ mostly in how you want to spend an hour on the trainer: racing and group rides, filmed roads, or video-led workouts. Zwift Plus now adds a coach. Many riders keep one of these and let a coach app decide what to ride: LeCoach's workouts sync to Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh through Intervals.icu, so you can keep the platform you enjoy.

    Analysis tools

These log and analyse your training, and leave the decisions to you or your human coach. They're strong if you love the data and enjoy planning, or if you already work with a coach. They won't tell you what to do tomorrow.

How to choose a cycling training app

Start with the job. If you want someone to decide what you ride, you want a coach app. If you already know what to ride and want it to be fun indoors, you want an indoor platform. If you want to dig through your own numbers, you want an analysis tool. A tracker like Strava records what you did and is a different thing again.

For a coach app, then ask five questions:

    • Are the workouts written for you, or picked from a library?
    • Can you talk to it, and can it change your plan from the conversation?
    • Does it use your recovery data, this morning's and the longer trend?
    • Does it ask before bigger changes, or guess and act?
    • Can you see whether your plan is working, in a way you understand?

LeCoach is built around those five. If your rides are mostly indoors and you like a fixed library, TrainerRoad is a fair alternative. If you race triathlon, look at Athletica.

    Cycling training app FAQ

For most riders, LeCoach: it writes every workout for you, adapts when it has to and is a coach you can talk to. For structured training on a trainer there is TrainerRoad, for a simple phone app JOIN, and for indoor riding with others Zwift. See the AI cycling coaches compared.

Not really. Strava records your rides and shows you how you did, but it doesn't plan your training. Most riders keep it for that, and use a coach app such as LeCoach to decide what to ride.

Not always. Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh are places to ride indoors, while a coach app decides what you ride. Many riders use both: LeCoach's workouts sync to Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh, and to your Garmin or Wahoo for outdoor rides.

LeCoach, JOIN, TrainerRoad, Athletica and Cycling Coach AI all say they adapt your plan, and Zwift Plus now has a coach that does. They differ in what they react to and whether they ask you first. TrainingPeaks adapts only through a paid human coach or a plan you buy.

A training plan is the schedule of what to ride, and it stays the same whatever happens. A training app delivers it, tracks what you did and often changes it. The best ones write the plan for you and adapt it when your week or your recovery calls for it.

Mostly yes, with heart rate or how the effort feels, though your targets will be less precise. LeCoach works with power or heart rate. If you train indoors, a smart trainer gives you power without a separate meter.
